The recent pickup in both volume and price action in COM GUARD COM INC (OTCMKTS:CGUD) has given us pause, exhibiting exactly the kind of volatility that we look for as technical traders.
We’ve never mentioned the stock here on Street Register before, so a quick background on the company before we dive into current events- CGUD describes itself as a technology company that has been designing and developing security applications for over 15 years. It is , however, it is its handy new printing utility that has piqued our interest.
COM GUARD COM INC (OTCMKTS:CGUD) has moved to address a problem, namely how smart phones and tablets are supposed to print direct to the millions of existing and future printer products of the major manufacturers.
Hewlett Packard is still the leader in printers, followed by Epson, Canon, Xerox, Brother and other players with smaller market shares. At this moment there is no easy, straightforward way, if at all, to print to Legacy Printers directly from Smartphones or Tablets without being on a network.
The Company has reportedly solved this problem by licensing and designing an add on Printer Device/software combo. (PrintSpot™ and printView® Software). The printView Software is a free App for the SmartPhone and Tablet Markets for both Android and iOS. The PrintSpot™ technology product, includes the necessary Printer Drivers and functions to print the output to the printer of choice exactly as seen from the user’s smart device.
The Company is designing products around the ARM and Raspberry Pi Platforms to target a mobile device solution that targets the software pricing under $10 or a mobile device that would be an end user product at the $50 price range. These products would provide secure and mobile printing to hundreds of millions of existing printers and new printing devices yet to be released.
The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, highly versatile computing solution that was only expected to sell a thousand units at its inception and first iteration. Flash forward 5 years, and multiple versions later, and there are more than 12 million Raspberry Pi units that have been purchased by companies and individuals around the world. In fact, it is considered the third best selling general purpose computer of all time behind only Apple’s Macintosh, and Windows PCs.
The Company believes that in addition to the mobile market’s need to print that there will be a need to print securely. According to Stephanie Dismore, VP and general manager of the Americas Commercial Channel for industry leader Hewlett Packard, ” The biggest untapped opportunities… are the the hundreds of millions of older printers and 400 million PCs that are four years or older with antiquated technology – including outdated BIOSes – -that makes them attractive targets for hackers.”
“We believe that Mobile and Secure Printing will be a real and growing market in the future” said Dr. Edward W. Savarese, Chief Executive Officer of Com-Guard, “The Company will be selling its devices to Mobile Carriers, Distributors and Licensing its technology to Companies for Private Label Products. IDC has predicted that 2.1 Billion Tablets and Smartphones will ship in 2017.”
So CGUD has identified a key market niche that is underserved, or even unaddressed, and has the software and hardware solution loaded up to try to capture some of that untapped business. That makes us interesting to see where the company will go from here. Keep it locked to Street Register for updates, and we’ll deliver those important developments on CGUD to you as they unfold.
